In Quebec the mid summer vacation has been a high time for drowning. In fact drowning occurs most likely in midsummer. It was the most acceptable time for the 12th edition International week of drowning prevention. From July 15 to July 22.

From 1986 to 2005, 222 people drowned in residential pool in Quebec only. It means 11 people per year lost their lives in residential pool.

Annually Quebec knows the greatest lost of lives in residential pools. Director of Safety Society Raynald Hawkins shares that 45 % of residential pools are bought in Quebec representing the highest number of incident.

In almost 50% of residential drowning children where the victims. M. Hawkins explained that for most of the drowning cases children did not want to go for the water but felt in the water accidently due to poor protection round the pool area.

M. Hawkins promotes a secure pool area that will reduce higher number of unnecessary drowning for residential pool owner. If the sides of the pool accessing the water is less than 1.22 m having the pool secured with a fence should be implemented. The door accessing the pool area shall also be secured with an automatic closing system. A lot of pools have a filtration system that can be use as a step therefore the filtration "trap/system" shall be far away from easy access. This is a model often sold for the above ground pool.

M. Hawkins agree with Coroner Michelle Houde to see that the government adopt a law that would make all pool owner's safer and responsible this would also be law for blow pools.
